Drug information and Poison Information Centres (DIC)

The Drug Information Centre (DIC), located in the Pharmacy Practice department provides consultative services to health care professionals.  Approximately 15-20 M.Pharm.  Students complete one year clearkships in the Drug Information Service (DIS) annually.

Each month the DIS responds to approximately 50 drug and therapeutics-related information requests from health care professionals practicing throughout India.  Additionally, the DIS faculty assist area health care workers on formulary matters, coordinate the adverse drug reaction reporting system for a district Health System, represent the College on the pharmacy services with the Nilgiris government head quarters hospital.

A drug information centre (DIC) has been established in the Government Headquarters Hospital, Ooty, for easy accessibility of the drug information services by the healthcare professionals and the patients.  Unbiased, comprehensive and relevant information regarding the drugs, disease conditions as well as other related healthcare work is provided to the physicians and other health care professionals, so as to support better patient care.
